Renewal management (renewal fee payment) as well as the administration of in-house invention disclosures and office actions are not part of the platform.
Core areas of the platform
- Patent watching and patent monitoring
- Patent search and patent research
- Patent family monitoring
- Applicant monitoring and competitive intelligence
- Technology scouting and technology intelligence
- Innovation monitoring
- AI-powered patent analysis
- Collaboration between IP and R&D teams
Relevance
What problems does PATOffice solve?
Many companies face similar challenges in patent monitoring and patent intelligence:
Risk Mitigation
- Relevant competitor patents are detected too late
- Risk of patent infringement due to lack of structured analysis
- Opposition deadlines missed due to poor process management
- R&D investments lost because a competitor filed first
Cost and Time Reduction
- Patent information scattered across different systems
- Manual evaluations consume significant time
- Low adoption of IP expert systems among R&D teams
- Coordination between IP and R&D takes too long
- High dependency on individual people in the IP team
Positive Business Impact
- Important information doesn't reach the right people in time
- Insights from evaluations are not captured in a structured way
- Speed of R&D is slowed by delayed patent information
- Patent landscape insights are not used for strategic decisions

Core Feature
Patent Watching and Patent Monitoring
PATOffice supports companies with continuous patent watching and automated patent monitoring. The platform distinguishes seven monitoring types in two groups:
Document-Based Monitoring
- Legal event monitoring: where exactly a patent stands in the prosecution process
- Status monitoring: whether an application is granted, withdrawn or amended
- Patent family monitoring: in which countries a patent is filed and the status in each
- Citation monitoring: whether a patent is cited by others — relevant for foundational patents and licensing opportunities
Profile-Based Monitoring
- Applicant monitoring: observing competitors to see what they are filing
- Classification monitoring (IPC/CPC): monitoring technology areas to see who is active and what is being filed
- Keyword monitoring: cross-classification monitoring to detect disruptive developments early
Alerts are the technical mechanism used to notify users in document-based monitoring types — not a standalone monitoring type. Results are visualized in dynamic dashboards and reports.
Core Feature
Patent Search and Patent Research
PATOffice supports global patent searches through four dedicated search modes:
- Boolean / field-based search
- Combination search
- AI-assisted search (semantic)
- Expert syntax search
The data is updated daily, covers more than 180 million records worldwide and spans over 130 jurisdictions. All common search types are supported: novelty searches (prior art / state of the art), infringement searches (freedom-to-operate), opposition searches (invalidity searches) and more.
PATOffice also provides a free license for external service providers (search firms and law firms) to make external collaboration as simple as possible.
