PATOffice launches generative artificial intelligence integration in patent monitoring software

Generative artificial intelligence is now part of our PATOffice software. Pre-built prompts simplify complex patents, allowing non-patent experts to help evaluate and analyze relevant (or non-relevant) patents. Today we tell you a little more about our AI integration in PATOffice.

We integrate generative artificial intelligence

Does that make sense? Absolutely. That's why our customers are already working with our latest feature: generative AI in PATOffice. We are still in the beta phase, i.e. we are still optimizing in some areas, but we are already so far along that we are receiving consistently positive feedback from our customers. Everyone is talking about AI, or artificial intelligence. But what does the term "generative" mean? But let's start from the beginning:

What does AI (artificial intelligence) mean?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad field of computer science that focuses on designing machines and computers to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. AI systems use algorithms, data and computer power to recognize patterns, make decisions, solve problems and even learn. This can be used in various areas, from image recognition and speech processing to autonomous vehicle control, but one thing is certain: if used correctly, artificial intelligence can have a positive impact on the everyday (working) lives of all of us:

What does generative AI mean?

Generative artificial intelligence refers to a form of AI technology that is capable of autonomously creating content or data that is human-like. These systems use advanced neural networks to generate text, images, music and even human speech without relying on prior data or templates. A prominent example is ChatGPT, a model known to compose human-like texts by recognizing context and patterns in input information and effectively replicating them. Generative AI has wide-ranging applications, from content creation and creative art to the automation of complex tasks.

Integration of generative AI in PATOffice

Anyone who watched our last webinar on "AI & patents - how we predict the market of tomorrow" will know that we have been working on integrating various AI models for several months now, and that we have been using applied AI for years to analyze market developments based on patent applications - more on this in the next blog article. Since the launch of Chat-GPT last fall, we have been thinking about how we too can integrate generative AI or LLMs (large language models) into our patent software, and now the time has come and we would like to show you today how our generative AI can make your everyday work with patents many times easier.

Our concept: one, two, many

One

Easiest application example: Give the AI a document and ask it to create new content from it on its own.

Best user examples are

  • “Please translate the patent description into another language"
  • “Please summarize the patent in no more than 100 words"
  • “Please list the key take aways of the patent claims"
  • etc.

Two

It gets a little more complicated with two documents, but still no problem for large language models like gen AI:

User examples are:

  • “Please compare the patent claims of the two documents"
  • “Please deliver a summary of the two documents as well as the main differences"
  • etc.

Many

This is where it gets really exciting and there is a clear trend in exactly this direction: the analysis of more than 2 patents. Exciting fields of application such as smart reporting, far-reaching analyses of the market, competitors and trends. We see huge potential and you can be sure of one thing: it's a lot of fun to actively shape the market with the help of AI.

In any case, you can look forward to the exciting journey that lies ahead of us in the IP world: You can watch our last webinar on "AI & patents - how we predict the market of tomorrow" here (please note: it is in German)
